I’d like to draw attention to this story found on the health segment of Global news. The story is about how the human brain reacts to decision making over time. It is an interesting story by itself is a little interesting, however not really newsworthy. But the reporter covered it from so many different angles that it’s almost like it became newsworthy.
The reporter got interviews from students studying trading in the stock market, a clinical psychologist, and a retired pilot. Not only that, but she also got information about how parole officers decision making decreases throughout the day, and how workaholics are very susceptible to decision fatigue. So she covered a wide range of different people in society, and how their rapid decision making can affect their jobs.
The reporter finished her story with a strong ending. She introduced a topic that almost everyone can relate to; dieting. Apparently, your brain needs glucose (food) in order to function properly and make decisions, but when you are dieting, the constant willpower associated with resisting temptation is mentally draining.
The one critique I have about this story is the way that it was presented online. If you haven’t watched the video that you wouldn’t know what I’m talking about; but there is about 30 seconds of a different story left over at the beginning of the online video. Clearly something went wrong in the process of putting the video up online, and it is very distracting to the viewer.
