Are Canadian Citizens Tired of Voting?

An interview with Nik Nanos and the Globe and Mail says that voters in Canada are likely suffering from something called election fatigue. In Canada, in just this year alone we have had 5 different elections, including one federal election. It is believed that as a result, voter turnout is worse than ever.

I think that this would be an interesting story to cover on 519 Online News because 519 just covered the latest provincial election in great detail, and it would good to follow up with a story about the effectiveness of Canadian elections.

The main question for this story is why aren’t people voting? Is it because they are happy with the way things are, or is it because they are just sick of elections like Nanos suggests?

It would be good to get some streeters for this story, and personally I’d like to cover it from a student angle. Are the younger generations voting? Why or why not?

As well, it would be good to take a look at the repercussions of the lack of voting in Canada. What will this mean in the long run? It would be good to get an interview with a political scientist who would have some insight into this issue.
