Election Reflection
A week ago today, I was out in the field attempting to cover the Ontario provincial elections for the Kitchener-Conestoga region. It was my first live broadcast and I can honestly say that I probably wouldn’t have gotten through it without my producer and partner, Kyle.
I was really nervous to be on camera. I had only found out four days in advance that our group had been cut, and the original person who was going to be on camera ended up being moved to a different area of the production.
In retrospect, I think I did an okay job; but after my standup I didn’t think so. I was happy with my interviews; especially the fact that I managed to get Michael Harris, the winner for my riding, on camera.
It definitely wasn’t perfect, we had some problems with the technical side of things, but that’s where Kyle was a lifesaver. He worked the computer and Facetime, and made sure that we got on air at the right times. Not only that, but he stayed so calm and relaxed through the entire thing. I don’t know how he did it.
I thought we were both very professional, and I would consider the whole broadcast a success.
