Last week I was the producer for 519’s season opener. After that experience, I can honestly say, I don’t know how Isabella coped with being the producer for our live election show. The job can be very stressful, but overall I was happy with what we produced.
Since it was our first pre-recorded show, I had no idea where to begin as a producer. Although I was explained what my role was in the newsroom, the job itself is difficult to focus on because there are so many different things to think about when producing a show.
For most of the day, I didn’t do much of anything but walk around and talk to people. I was constantly checking for progress reports on stories, graphics, scripts, and anything I could think of to ask about or potentially help with. But that was definitely the down time of the day.
Then came the editing; the editing that we clearly did not have enough time to do. All of the stories came in on time, but the editing process took so long; too long. We were behind schedule, and everyone was working hard, but there simply was not enough time to edit the stories.
I ended up staying late with the fantastic editors, Julie and Nathan, as they worked extensively to finish the final product and post it online. Even though I tried my best, I couldn’t manage to lead our group effectively enough to produce the show on time. I am, however, very proud of the final product and all of the people who helped produce it.
