Don’t Take Candy from Strangers… Even Online

There has recently been a new website launched called Take this Lollipop. The website is designed as a warning for facebook, and other social media users to be aware of how much information they are giving away over the internet.

The website first dares you to click on, or ‘take,’ the blue lollipop featured on the website, then it prompts you to login to your facebook. Through that, the website gathers basic information from your profile, and subs it into a video. Video then shows you the image of a man hacking your facebook, and ultimately finding a map to your house.

After hearing about this, I was amazed at just how much information a website can gather simply by getting you to login to your facebook account. Not only that, but I was amazed that they are able to change the video every time a different person clicks on the lollipop.

For this story I plan on interviewing the people who use facebook a lot (mainly students), and a technical support specialist who knows about encoding. Then, if it is possible, I would like to interview my old professor who teaches a course on media awareness.
