Halloween… Again

This week for 519 Online news I was working as a camera person as well as an editor. My partner, Oje Izirein, was the reporter and neither one of us had any story ideas. So as kind of a back-up we decided to cover Halloween again.

It was fun; and a nice fluff story. I went out filming trick-or-treaters, and came up with some filming problems that I haven’t always had to deal with. First of all, I had brought a light, but by the time I was ready to start filming it was dark out. I soon realized that I could only get medium shots with the light I brought, and I was forced to blind my subjects with it every time I wanted to film. It was to be expected of course, but still a good experience.

Oje surprised me this morning with a breaking news story. He still got some footage for the Halloween story but he was busy all day working on a story about a car crash. Then I had to deal with the editing problems.

I have never been so careful checking the video settings before… and yet somehow it didn’t really make much of a difference today. I ended up with SD video instead of HD video so I had to re-edit my story. Then Final Cut Pro wasn’t exporting my entire story so I had to export it though a secondary program called Conversion. Either way, I managed to get it done, and I think it looks okay.

It will be posted sometime this week on www.519onlinenews.com, check it out!
