The End of Occupy

This is a news report found on the CTV news website about how police took action in Toronto today by moving out the protesters. I found this report almost bias because of the way that the portrayed the removal of the protestors.

I think that the report told the story in such a way that made it out to be somewhat sensationalistic, as well as incorrect. From all of the reports that I’ve heard about how police and city workers disassembled the tents, it sounded much more peaceful then this report made it out to be.

For example, in the voiceover the reporter used words such as ‘stand-off’ and ‘barricade’ which made the park almost sound like a war zone. When the reporter said how the protesters were “Now handcuffed by police,” it makes it sound as though many arrests were made, when in reality there were only a few.

But aside from that, the report was good. There were some really great visuals of the police moving in, and their announcements in the early morning. As well they got shots of a conflict, and a person being arrested; as well as an interview with a memorable subject who appeared later in the report.

Finally, it seems as though Occupy Toronto, like many other occupy movements, has been shut down. I just pity the city workers who had to take apart the protester’s camp and who now have to clean up the park.
