My Tales as a TV Journalist

On Friday night I was fortunate enough to cover a United Way event honoring Lisa LaFlamme; anchor for CTV news. I knew that there was going to be some very famous journalists there, but I honestly didn’t know what to expect. I wasn’t sure if we would be able to grab them for an interview, or even get the chance to talk with them.

But we were in the right place at the right time, and our crew got some great interviews with James Duthie from TSN, and, the guest of honor, Lisa LaFlamme. That in itself was very exciting, but the highlight of the night for me was definitely when I got an interview with Lloyd Robertson; former anchor for CTV news and the longest running anchor in history.

When I had started this program at Conestoga College, I never thought that I would get a chance to do something like this. Not only does this look favorably upon my portfolio, but it was such a good experience! I never thought that I would get the chance to speak to someone like Lloyd Robertson until I was already far into my career.

The whole thing was an eye-opener. I was amazed at how much time it takes for a journalist like Lisa LaFlamme to become so famous; and compared to many, her journey to success took much less time than most journalists. I doubt that I will ever become as noteworthy as many of the journalists I met that night, but at least I have a better idea of what I’m up against.
